Things to do

Egypt is a land of history, knowledge and natural beauty found in the desert with oases, lush vegetation surrounding the Nile river, underwater world of the Red Sea and Sinai mountain range.
Its diversity offers something special for everybody. You can explore your interests, deepen your knowledge, enjoy your hobbies or simply relax and find some inner peace. Here are just a few options to give you some holiday ideas.
Cruising on the Nile The
Nile CruiseCruising on the Nile The Nile is a magnificent river and cruising along its banks is both relaxing and allows an opportunity to explore the great historical sites of Upper Egypt. The most popular way is to embark on one of the big Nile Cruise Boats for either a week-long cruise both ways between Aswan and Luxor, a shorter four-night cruise from Luxor to Aswan or a three-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor. Boats come in different classes and styles and everybody can find one that suits them. The only problem with big boats is that a lot of them follow the same itinerary and some monuments can get crowded during the high season. A more private and luxurious way to explore the Nile is on a Dahabiya, a 19th century houseboat with sails which usually accommodates 12-20 people. For the adventurous, there is also a chance to sail the Nile on a Felucca, a type of sailboat already used in ancient times. It is the favourite boat among tourists for sunset cruises but, if you can forget about the daily comfort of bathrooms, toilets and use Nile water directly for washing, you can also take a sailing trip on a felucca between Aswan and Luxor lasting several days.
Beach Holidays
Beach HolidayBeach Holidays are becoming the main source of tourism income for Egypt and new hotels are being built all the time, extending resorts along the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts. The so-called Red Sea Riviera includes the main resorts in Sinai: Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Taba and Nuweiba and on the mainland: Hurghada, El-Gouna, Marsa Alam, and Safaga. Apart from 365 days of sun and beautiful sea with a rich underwater world, all of these resorts offer a large number of hotels of all classes, many entertainment venues and lots of excursions available every day so tourists can really create holidays to remember. The Mediterranean coast seems to be more popular with local tourists, especially in summer to escape the heat and humidity of Cairo. However, the sandy beaches around Alexandria and west towards Mersa Matrouh could also be a nice and peaceful vacation spot in spring and autumn, although one cannot always count on sunny skies.
Hiking
Hiking There are many options for hiking across the desert or in the mountains of Sinai. The usual trails in the White Desert (link to the programme) give you an opportunity to walk in a landscape of unparalleled beauty. You can combine this with the more thorough experience of the Western Desert (link to the programme). In Sinai you enter the Beduin world and experienced guides can take you for short or long Sinai treks (links to the programme) through the desert or on a higher range of mountains.
Snorkelling
SnorkelingSnorkelling is one of the favourite activities of tourists holidaying at Red Sea resorts. If you love the underwater world it is best to choose a hotel with access to coral reefs directly from the beach (which is most common in Sharm El-Sheikh). There are also daily yacht trips to snorkelling locations or you can take a car to explore national parks in Sinai such as Ras Mohammed and Nabq Bay.
Diving
DivingThe Red Sea offers some of the finest underwater experiences. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, there are many ways to enjoy yourself. You can stay in one of the resorts and just take a diving course (link to programme in Sharm, Dahab or Hurghada diving courses) or you can join a diving safari (link to the programme) where you may enjoy a full week of diving at the best spots along the Egyptian Red Sea coastline. A completely different experience is diving around Alexandria where you can explore the lost underwater treasures of the Greco-Roman period.
Windsurfing & Kiting
Wind SurffingDahab is known as a paradise for windsurfers and kiters, both beginners and the experienced. With its lagoon and warm water and wind almost every day of the year, your surfing holiday (link to programme) is destined to be perfect. If you want to explore different and less touristy places, then we can organise surfing in Ras Sudr or El Tur. Of course, there are also surfing spots in Hurghada, Safaga and Sharm El-Sheikh.
Golf
Golf Golf courses are found all around Egypt and many new ones are built every year. So you can enjoy your golfing vacation in a single place, like Sharm El-Sheikh or Hurghada or make a golf journey through Egypt (link to programme). Many courses organise tournaments and you can join them and pit your skills against other players. We can provide you with information about tournaments in different places.
Fishing
FishingThe Red Sea is an obvious choice for big game fishing (link to the programme) and these trips can be organised from Hurghada. However, there is another excellent fishing site – Lake Nasser . There you can catch giant Nile Perch, Catfish, Tiger Fish and Carp. Other good locations include Lake Qarun at the Fayoum Oasis and Al Gameel near the Suez.
Birdwatching
BirdwatchingBirdlife is abundant, especially in the Nile Delta and Nile Valley. The country has 153 known species of birds, including the sunbird, golden oriole, egret, hoopoe, plover, pelican, flamingo, heron, stork, quail, and snipe. Birds of prey found in Egypt include eagles, falcons, vultures, owls, kites, and hawks. Besides the diversity of indigenous birds along the Nile river and around lakes, a special magic to bird watching is brought by bird migrations. Those times are also the best to enjoy your bird-watching trip.
Astronomy
One could say that Egypt is the birthplace of astronomy and in its museums you can examine old instruments or look at old related inscriptions in temples. The desert sky, mostly clear throughout the year and with minimal light pollution, offers some of the best star-gazing (link to the programme). A visit to the observatory in Helwan can also be organised.
Geology
GeologyThe landscape in Egypt is very diverse and, especially in Sinai and in the Western Desert, there are some spectacular geological formations and sedimentations. You can explore them on your way through the desert.
History
HistoryEgypt is regarded as one of the oldest and most developed civilisations and is thus a true paradise for history lovers. Some of the most important historical personas are associated with Egypt and their legacy can be found in different places. A history tour through Egypt can teach you where we came from and how much we have learned from ancient wisdom.
Religion
ReligionA history tour through Egypt can teach you about the ancient Egyptian gods, cults and worshiping. If you want to learn about Islam, with its thousand mosques and the Al-Azhar school Cairo is the best place. There you can also explore Coptic Christianity. A very interesting story can be told by following the steps of the Holy Family when they escaped to Egypt. Or you can simply visit Sinai’s St. Catherine monastery and Moses Mountain, believed to be the birthplace of the Ten Commandments.
Meditation
MeditationSpirituality has a long tradition in Egypt and there are many quiet places with special energy that were already known in ancient times and, of course, today you can also find great places for meditation. We can guide you to those special spots in temples and in nature.
Natural Healing
Natural HealingMany origins of modern medicine can be found in Egypt. At the Siwa oasis and in Asuan they treat rheumatism with the help of the hot desert sand and a special diet. We can connect you with a medical centre there and organise other logistics for you. In Safaga a combination of sea water and mud from the coral reefs created black sand known as a great cure for rheumatism and psoriasis. The sea water is 35% saline and the results of scientific research prove that 40% of the sand in Safaga contains three radioactive minerals: uranium, thorium and potassium which aid in the treatment of psoriasis, joint pains, and skin inflammation.
